Refugee Reflection

Last week, I was able to give my students an awesome opportunity thanks to a walk-through by one of my administrators. While we were studying the refugee camp of Dadaab in a supplemental article to Refugee by Alan Gratz, Mr. D'Annibale walked through, mentioning he knew a few refugees. Later, he contacted me when he was able to arrange for one to come in for my students to interview.
It was a great, authentic experience for my students to actually speak with and ask a refugee about his experiences in the camp and during his transition into America. I asked them to reflect on their discussion using Apple Clips. Previously, I've posted about iMovie, but clips allows for short reflections which can be quickly created by students (less video editing and splicing power, more filters and stickers). Students uploaded them to Google Classroom, and I downloaded them all in batches to compile into iMovie to edit to create a quick reflective "Thank you" for our speaker. I was really impressed with the thoughts my students shared for their reflective take-aways.
